Celebrating Female Football Week at Southy

As we kick off the exciting Female Football Week (FFW) 2023, we at South Cardiff Community Football Club are thrilled to be part of this national celebration! It’s time to shine a spotlight on the women and girls who breathe life into our club and are shaping the future of football.

This year is particularly special as FFW aligns with the FIFA Women’s World Cup being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand. It’s an incredible opportunity to recognise the immense growth of women’s football and the influential roles women are playing in the beautiful game, both locally and globally.

Building skills, aspirations and promoting participation

To step into this excitement, we’re offering special skills clinics for our youngest footballers, the MiniRoos (U5 to U11). These clinics are run during their usual training times by the girls from our youth teams (U12s-U18s), who serve not just as their coaches but also as role models, demonstrating the endless possibilities that football provides.

Female Football Week, running from Friday 19th to Sunday 28th May, aims to encourage female participation at all levels of the game. It’s not just about playing – it’s about coaching, refereeing, volunteering and being part of a vibrant, passionate community.

Fun activity pack

To keep the spirit of FFW alive at home, why not check out the Club Activity Pack? It’s packed with word searches, crosswords, and colouring-in sheets.

Webinar opportunities and more

To further amplify the spirit of FFW, OUR GAME is hosting a national webinar series focusing on Women in Coaching, Women in Refereeing, and Celebrating Women in Football on the 23rd, 24th, and 28th of May respectively. We encourage everyone to register and be part of these empowering sessions. Find out more and register at Our Game Women’s Football Week.

The theme for this year, #LoveOurGame, truly encapsulates what we feel for football at Southy. We strive to foster an inclusive and diverse community that celebrates and uplifts women and girls in the sport. Our goal is to inspire them to take the reins and drive the future of women’s football.

As we celebrate Female Football Week, we recognise the power of football to positively influence and build an inclusive game that embraces and celebrates women and girls. Here’s to growing, learning, and elevating our game together. Let’s celebrate, join the game, and remember to #LoveOurGame!
