South Cardiff Girls Shine at World Cup Six-A-Side Tournament

South Cardiff Community Football Club has kicked off its 2023 season with an impressive display at the World Cup six-a-side tournament held this weekend. Two SCCFC teams participated in the event, with the U15’s playing as Australia and the U13’s as USA.

Despite the scorching heat, both teams showed great determination and skill on the field. The U15’s dominated their games, winning the grand final 7-2 with an incredible attacking game. Meanwhile, the U13’s fought valiantly and won the consolation final 6-4, taking home the Bronze thanks to excellent goals from Tahlia, Tay, Sammy and Zoey. A big shoutout to coaches Mark and Graham for their encouragement and support throughout the day.

The event was hosted by Tilligerry FC and made possible by a grant from the NSW Football Legacy Fund. The tournament aimed to increase female player participation, with female teams of all ages representing a country of their choice. While the day had a festive atmosphere with food trucks, face painting, and raffles, it was also an important step towards South Cardiff’s long-term goal of promoting and improving female football.

SCCFC would like to thank Tilligerry FC for hosting a fantastic event. A big thanks also to our Female Football Manager, Dan, for his hard work behind the scenes to make the day a success for our girls.

In conclusion, the success of South Cardiff at the World Cup six-a-side tournament is a testament to the club’s commitment to promoting and improving female football. The event was a fantastic opportunity for the players to showcase their skills and for the community to come together in support of grassroots football. With the 2023 season just around the corner, SCCFC is looking forward to building on this success as well as putting up a strong showing in the coming months.
