South Cardiff’s growing pains solved by grant funding

South Cardiff Community Football Club has experienced significant growth in participation, with a 59% increase since 2019 and a 380% increase in female participation over the same period. However, the club’s equipment has not been able to keep up with the growth, which is why they applied for and received a grant from the NSW Football Legacy Fund. With the grant, South Cardiff will be able to purchase new goals that can support the growth of female football and further increase participation of combined male and female teams. This article discusses how the NSW Football Legacy Fund is helping grassroots football clubs like South Cardiff provide quality football experiences and meet the expectations of new people coming into the club. As Australia prepares to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023, the NSW Football Legacy Fund is critical in strengthening the football community in NSW and creating facilities and programming to match the buzz around the tournament.
